Evan Blackwell was born in New Rochelle, New York and now resides in Seattle, WA. In 1999 he completed a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree with a focus in ceramics from Alfred University, Alfred NY. In 2008 he earned a Master of Fine Arts from the University of Washington, Seattle WA. Evan has been creating and showing his art work both nationally and internationally. He has worked as an artist assistant, a potter and ceramic art instructor for adults and children at a number of different studios including Pottery Northwest in Seattle, WA and the Pottery Workshop in Shanghai, China. He was a teaching assistant and studio manger at The Haystack Mountain School of Craft in Deer Isle, Maine for a number of ceramics workshops including Chris Staley’s and Julia Galloway’s. He worked as teaching assistant and a graduate teacher at the University of Washington where he received the de Cillia Teaching with Excellence Award. Evan was an Emerging Artist in Residence at the Pilchuck School of Glass in Stanwood, WA in 2003. In 2005, he was a finalist for the Seattle Art Museum’s Betty Bowen award and a recipient of a PONCHO Special Recognition Award. In 2006 he received an Art Patch grant and in 2007 he was awarded a residency at the Takt Kunstprojecttraum Residency in Berlin, Germany. In 2009 he was an artist-in-residence at the Pottery Workshop in Shanghai, China.
